Where it all began.
The Haynes Slab P 1951/54 Bass takes you back to the very roots of the electric bass — the original slab body design that started a revolution. Inspired by the groundbreaking instruments of the early 1950s, this plan captures the raw simplicity and unmistakable character of the first production electric basses.
The 1951 version reflects the earliest single-cutaway slab construction — a no-frills, utilitarian design with a punchy, thumping tone that laid the foundation for everything that followed. Pair it with Haynes Vintage '51 single-coil pickup for that authentic, percussive thud.
The 1954 version introduces the refinements that defined the mid-decade evolution — subtle contour updates and tonal improvements that bridged the gap between the original and the modern era. Matched with Haynes Vintage '54 pickup, it delivers warmth and depth with period-correct character.
Two milestones. Pure history.
Handcrafted plans. Authentic tone. Built to last.
